The Woodstock Navy Vets have started their training camp. They will be looking to finalize their roster and will have two exhibition games this weekend.
WOODSTOCK - The Provincial Junior Hockey League is gearing up for another season.
The 2023-24 edition of the Woodstock Navy Vets are also prepairing for the year as training camp got underway on Wednesday, August 16th and continued Thursday, August 17th.
Head Coach, Darren Young says that heading into their first pre-season game the team will different in the way they compete on the ice.
"In terms of the team, I think we are going to be a little bit more straight line then we were in the past, which I think is a good thing for us. I think just a little harder to play against, you know be able to grind out games and play different styles, which I think is really good for us."
Young adds that the team is shaping up nicely, but there are some young players, some 16-year-olds that will be looking to standout during their camp and exhibition schedule.
"Obviously they can show out in camp and sway us one way or the other, but we are fairly full. We have a lot of local guys that we really like, and will be in the U18 program, so we want to give them experience and give them a taste of junior hockey, and the Navy Vets."
He says that those that don't get a full-time spot with the team, will be AP's for the team through out the season.
The Navy Vets will get their preseason schedule started Saturday, August 19th at 6:30 as they take on the Mount Brydges Bulldogs at the Komoka Wellness Centre.
That is not the only game the Vets will have this weekend, as they will host the Mitchell Hawks on Sunday, August 20th. Game time is 1:45 p.m. and will take place at Southwood Arena.
