People in Oxford County are being encouraged to give blood this holiday season as part of Canadian Blood Services' Wrap It Up Red campaign.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Police Service will be helping out Canadian Blood Services in a big way.
They dedicate their time, their sweat, and Constable Nikki VanLeeuwen says they will also be literally giving their blood. "We have partnered with Canadian Blood Services and their Wrap It Up Red Holiday Season first responder blood donor clinic. I believe there are about 41 members who have signed up to give blood on that day." The Wrap It Up Red Campaign will continue throughout the holiday season with 125 000 appointments across Canada.
Constable VanLeeuwen spoke to Heart FM on why it is important to donate blood. "I know that there is a shortage always, and I understand that our contact with blood services has advised Oxford County that we really have a shortage here, so it is really important that people get out and donate blood. It is a great service, you feel good about yourself, you're volunteering, and you are giving back. We all know that if you are ever in the circumstance where you need blood you sure hope that our banks are full of it."
The Police Department have become a Canadian Blood Services Partner of Life, and Constable VanLeeuwen knows it is important to take part in the Wrap It Up in Red Campaign. "It is important for us because we are involved in emergencies around the city, so I think it kind of really hits home for us. We are out there, we are on the front lines, and we do see instances where people would need that."
The public is invited to stop by Goff Hall from 1 - 7:30 p.m. today to give blood.
