The City of Woodstock has purchased a 57.3 acre woodlot south of the 401 for $229,200
WOODSTOCK - The city of Woodstock is now the proud owner of a woodlot located between the 401 and Pattullo Ave.
The city authorized the $229,200 purchase from Farhi Holdings at their meeting Thursday night.
Brian Connors, Director of Parks and Rec tells Heart FM they must work to protect and preserve the woodlot before they do anything else.
"There have been people trespassing on it with trucks so that's really ripping up a lot of the area and endangering a lot of the trees so we want to make sure that unauthorized vehicles are off this property."
All of the gaps surrounding the woodlot will be closed off. Connors notes the 57.3 acre woodlot is one of a kind.
"There's a lot of different tree species in this woodlot so it's not a monoculture or anything like that. It's a very large woodlot."
Mayor Trevor Birtch says the city residents will be able to enjoy the natural beauty of the woodlot in the coming years.
"In the near future we will have a great announcement about a new trail system when that's developed for that area - good news for the citizens that enjoy nature!"
