WOODSTOCK - A local soccer club are walking on cloud nine after a major tournament victory.
The U17 Woodstock Strikers Soccer Club won a gold medal in the gold division of the Niagara Falls Tournament.
Facing bigger and stronger teams, including one from as far as Quebec, and winning has given the team confidence.
Head Coach Tom Birch credits one defining factor that put them on top in the tough division.
"Our team chemistry is phenomenal we have a great bunch of kids supported by great parents and we've been around for about eight or nine years. We've had a few girls come and go, but our same core has been the same and a real tight knit team."
Birch says the team hopes to use the new found momentum this Saturday as they start off their Challenge Cup.
"Oh the confidence now. We know we can compete against the tougher centers and the bigger cities. Right now we are ranked third in our league and the semi-final match is against our number one ranked team. So now with the momentum coming off this gold medal in the gold division, we know we can compete with anybody."
