Woodstock Votes Against Seeking Provincial Assistance with Boundary Adjustment

Woodstock City Council has voted against submitting a request to the province to see if a commission could be established for a boundary adjustment with East Zorra-Tavistock.

WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock will not be reaching out to the Ford Government for assistance in the boundary adjustment discussions with East Zorra-Tavistock.

During an interview with Heart FM earlier this week, Mayor Jerry Acchione said city council was going to consider a motion to reach out to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, so a commission could be established. He said the City is required by the province to have a 25-year plan for intensification, and it needs more land for future developments.

"Right now, with everything we have approved just in my term of council already, we've got three planned subdivisions with over 3,000 units already planned. But that's only three to five years worth, so we are nowhere close to 25 years."

The EZT boundary adjustment would give Woodstock more residential land, while another boundary adjustment with Norwich Township would provide more industrial land.

Woodstock officials approached EZT and Norwich on the matter last month but EZT turned them down, saying they could revisit the matter in about 18 months once they complete their Secondary Planning. The boundary adjustment discussions are moving forward in Norwich.

During last night's Woodstock City Council meeting, council voted against approaching the province for backup for the EZT discussion.
