A 49 year old Woodstock woman has been sentenced to a five year prohibition from owning, having custody or living with animals after the Ontario SPCA found her guilty of neglecting her dog.
WOODSTOCK - A 49 year old woman has been found guilty in an animal cruelty case in Woodstock.
An Ontario SPCA officer was called out to a local home late last month. While on the scene they located a 10 year old dog with extreme hair loss and scaly skin all over its body. The West Highland Terrier-mix also appeared to be lethargic and was biting at its rear end.
An investigation revealed the dog was suffering from environmental allergies and an ear infection. It has been treated by a veterinarian and sent to a new home.
Senior Inspector Carol Vanderheide says a lack of finances is no excuse for animal neglect.
"There will be consequences under the law if you fail to provide appropriate care for your animals or if you fail to take steps to alleviate an animal's suffering."
Patricia Armstrong was sentenced to a five year prohibition from owning, having custody or living with pets; with the exception of the other three dogs and two cats in her care.
She will also be subject to semi-annual inspections during that time and will have to pay $575 in restitution to the Ontario SPCA.
