WOODSTOCK - A woman from Woodstock plans to run 82 Kilometres on Boxing Day for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Amanda Nelson says she is doing this run for her grandfather.
"In August of this year I lost my grandfather, Hille Alven Slager, to heart disease. Every year, on Boxing Day, our extended family gathered together to celebrate Christmas but due to the Covid-19 restrictions this will not be happening this year. I am a runner so this year to fill the void we all are feeling and to honour my grandpa's life I would like to run 82 km, one kilometre to represent every year of his life. "
Nelson explains why she chose the Heart and Stroke foundation for this run.
My grandpa had a massive heart attack many years ago and because of research funded by the Heart and Stroke Foundation he was able to live another 20 years, years where he was able to be a part of his grandchildren and great grandchildren's lives. We will all miss him greatly...his hugs are what I will miss the most. I dedicate this run in memory of the late Hille Alven Slager."
