For 20 years golfers from Woodstock and Sylvania Ohio have met up for a golf tournament to bring the cities closer together.
A friendly golf match is uniting some Woodstonians with golfers from the sister city of Sylvania, Ohio.
16 golfers representing the Friendly City will travel to Ohio to play their 20th annual match. As it stands right now, the team from Ohio is out in front, having won 10 of the last 19 meetings.
Rick Young, founder of the event, says it isn't about the score, it's about the relationships they build.
"There is a lot of comradery, a lot of friendships - a lot of incredible friendships that have been over the past 20 years since we started it. It is probably the thing I am most proud of with the event."
Each year the cities alternate turns hosting the event. Young says the game is important, but it goes beyond that.
"Not a huge deal, it is just the idea of going down there to celebrate the game, to celebrate both golf courses, and to celebrate match play, because that is what it is, a match play event."
He says the two cities are home to wonderful golf courses.
"It has been good, they have a tremendous golf course down there. We think we have a great one here at Craigowan, which we do. Craigowan is a tremendous golf course, in terms of playability and fun. They have a very similar golf course down there and they actually host a LPGA tour event, the Marathon classic, at Highland Meadows in Sylvania."
This could be the last year for the long standing tournament, so there is plenty of pride on the line as the Canucks look to go out on a tie.
