Environment Canada is saying the worst is over from "Superstorm Sandy", as far as Ontario is concerned. But the clouds aren't ready to part yet. We're expected to receive another 25mm of rain over the course of the next 36-48-hours, along with wind gusts in the 40-60km/h range. Last night's wind speeds in Oxford County topped out in the 80-90km/h range, causing power outages in rural parts of the county. A number of fences were knocked down by the force, and a large tree was uprooted at the corner of Nellis and Canfield Crescent in Woodstock. (Shown on right) Most of the power has been restored in the County, aside from about 500 Hydro One customers in Norwich. Otherwise, damage was surprisingly minimal. It's a different story on the US eastern seaboard, where officials are only starting to get a handle on the damage from Sandy's surge. 8.2-million Americans are without power, but the full extent of the damage still isn't clear in hard-hit areas like New Jersey. The early estimate from IHS Global Insight, a forecasting firm, is $20-Billion in damage. They also speculate that gas prices may rise in the days ahead, as many East Coast oil refineries and inflicted unexpected damage.
