An 18 year old university student is looking to represent Oxford County on the provincial level, as an Alliance Party MPP.
OXFORD COUNTY - A local university student is looking to bring a fresh perspective to Queens Park.
Robert Van Ryswyck is the Alliance Party's candidate for Oxford in the upcoming provincial election.
He's had a passion for politics over the past five years and he's currently studying political science at Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo.
"I recognize that politics is the one area in which we really do have the power to change our society around us, so naturally I was pulled towards that as someone who wants to make a difference."
He views his lack of experience as an advantage.
"To me experience in politics is often equated with corruption or change over the years. It's unfortunate that that is the stage of politics in our society today, but the fact is many people do not trust what's going on anymore. I want to provide the option of the honest choice; someone truly believes in what they stand for and is not afraid of the executives and the higher ups of the party."
He adds the Alliance Party is a non corrupt, grassroots movement that is against the whipped vote.
Ontarians will head to the polls on June 7th.
