Andrew's Legacy will be providing Zorra Highland Public School with a AED unit on Wednesday
OXFORD COUNTY - Zorra Highland Public School is going to hold a special presentation for Andrew's Legacy.
This Wednesday the community are invited to witness an AED unit be permanently placed in the school. Andrew Stoddart passed away in May while playing soccer, and his Uncle, Ron Funnell, explains where they currently stand. "We are actually at a point now where we will actually start taking applications from various groups that are looking for AED units, that are looking to be presented permanently on site. The message is certainly getting out there, we have a number of AED units that are out there, and a number of groups that are interested in applying to have one put into their location as well." Andrew's family believed if an AED was present at the Kintore soccer field the 15 year old would still be alive.
Funnell, gives a preview on what Andrew's Legacy will do working into 2016. "We will continue to fundraise and we will be doing more events both locally and across Oxford. We will be meeting with Mr. Hardeman and Mr. MacKenzie in the new year to simply mandate AED units being located permanently in all community gathering places."
Andrew attended the school outside of Embro, for 4 years, where he was a star athlete before his sudden passing, and Funnell knows it is going to be a tough day. "This will be an emotional presentation, but an important presentation, and a significant milestone in the fact that the Thames Valley School Board has granted approval for this AED to be permanently donated. We want to thank the community for their ongoing support to allow us to continue with this cause." Those looking to donate to the cause can do so by calling Andrew's Aunt, Kirsta Beattie (519) 320-0663, or his mom Cara Schmidt (519) 319-5475.
