Mayor Marcus Ryan suspects another high frequency rail line could be in the works after CN Rail and VIA both asked Zorra Township to remove a bridge on 41st Line.
ZORRA TOWNSHIP - CN Rail and VIA have asked Zorra Township to remove a bridge on 41st Line to facilitate the addition of another line.
Mayor Marcus Ryan says council just passed a motion to negotiate with CN on options for the bridge.
"Possible cost sharing if the bridge was not removed but was replaced and things like that. So that is an ongoing discussion and frankly with residents as well, who have expressed a lot of concerns about the bridge removal."
Ryan says he suspects part of this proposal from CN is to add another high frequency rail line to move through Southwestern Ontario.
"The proposed high speed rail line from the previous Provincial Government was going to go right through Oxford County and cut many roads in half and result in a lot of dead ends in Oxford County. I suspect that part of this proposal from CN and VIA to add that line would be to allow an approved high frequency line."
Ryan says this is exactly what they were proposing when they were fighting against the proposed high speed rail line.
"That a high frequency rail line would be almost as fast, much cheaper and much more accessible for residents and much less disruptive to the communities the rail line would go through."
