It was a ribbon-cutting and grand opening event for new affordable housing units in Oxford County.
OXFORD COUNTY - A joint housing project had a grand opening event in Woodstock.
Oxford County and Woodstock Non-Profit Housing Corporation cut the ribbon at 785 Southwood Way, which brought 52-unit residential apartments, including 37 affordable one and two-bedroom units. Manager of Housing and Homelessness in Oxford County, Anthony Dolcetti, says who exactly the affordable units are geared towards.
"So, the 37 units are full to date. Again, 37 units for seniors, women, and women with children, with 10 units being fully dedicated to women with children as well."
Dolcetti mentions this only solves a portion of the housing crisis Oxford County is seeing.
"Although 37 seems like a relatively small number to the needs in the community, it's a step in the right direction. We're continually invested in more of these types of events, obviously more developments."
Oxford County supported the project through the provision of shovel-ready land aligned with the County’s Master Housing Strategy, a $1.4-million capital contribution, and development charge exemptions.
