The 36 conservation authorities across the province will amalgamate into nine regional authorities as of February 1st, 2027.

ONTARIO - Big changes are on the horizon for conservation authorities across Ontario.

The 36 conservation authorities will amalgamate into nine regional authorities due to recent changes to the Conservation Authorities Act.

As of February 1st, 2027, the Grand River Conservation Authority will join forces with the Long Point Region Conservation Authority, the Catfish Creek Conservation Authority, and the Kettle Creek Conservation Authority. Together they will form the Eastern Lake Erie Regional Conservation Authority.

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority will be part of the Western Lake Erie Regional Conservation Authority along with the Essex Region Conservation Authority, the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority, and the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority.

The Ontario Provincial Conservation Agency is overseeing this transition. It will appoint a project executive to chair the transition committee, which will also include the General Manager/CAO and one elected board member from each conservation authority.
