A Stomp the Dump Rally is happening in Ingersoll on Sunday.
INGERSOLL - A huge rally is happening on Sunday to protest the proposed mega dump near Ingersoll.
The Stomp the Dump rally is happening at 2 p.m. inside the Anglican Church on Oxford Church. Ingersoll Mayor Ted Comiskey says they really want to see a huge crowd to send a message.
"If you have a heart for the fact that you don't want a new landfill in Ingersoll, then come on out, and it's not just for Ingersoll, it's every Township around the area, every township around the area, it's every person in Oxford County that should be very concerned about where waste is going in the County. Every place in Southern Ontario should be fully aware of the dangers of a mega landfill and then be given that choice on whether they wish to take that risk or not."
Comiskey says it is crucial to get as many people out to the rally as possible to send a message to the Walker Environmental Group.
"The need for communities to be able to decide. Municipalities must be able to decide whether they would like a mega landfill in their area or not. We have the right right now to the gaming commission whether we would like a casino or not, it isn't pushed on us. Same with toxic waste, the ministry needs to find places to put toxic wastes, they put it out to municipalities so they have a choice, if they would like to have it or not. This is something that municipalities should have the right to say whether they want a mega landfill in their municipality."
The Stomp the Dump Rally is being hosted by all of the groups and organizations that have been created in and around Ingersoll to block the landfill from moving into Ingersoll.
