Junior Achievement Program in Tillsonburg Helps Students Gain Financial Sense

Students in at Annandale Public School are learning about dollars and (financial) sense as part of a new program.

TILLSONBURG - Grade 7 and 8 students at Annandale Public School in Tillsonburg are getting some valuable life lessons from new programs funded by Junior Achievement London and District.

Five new programs were announced on Tuesday designed to teach kids how save money and spend it wisely.

President and CEO of Junior Achievement Bev Robinson tells Heart FM the 'Economics for Success' program encourages Grade 8 students to reflect on the advantages of remaining in school until they have acquired the knowledge, attitudes, and skills to undertake successful careers. She adds the other major program is called 'Dollars With Sense.' It encourages grade 7 students to make smart, lifelong financial choices. JA programs are delivered at no cost to the students or the school, but are generously funded by local groups and corporations.

The programs are run by community volunteers who share their personal life lessons with the students. Understanding the importance of financial literacy, Kinsmen Club of Tillsonburg generously sponsored this project to ensure youth in Tillsonburg are supported to pursue their dreams and know what it takes to achieve them.

Junior Achievement offers several similar programs at the high school level across Oxford County and are hoping more schools and volunteers will come on board.
