The concert band will mark the occasion during it's spring concert at Knox Presbyterian Church next Friday.
WOODSTOCK - It has been 30 years since the Oxford Winds Community Concert Band first started.
It was founded by Eugenia Riehl, a private music teacher for brass and woodwind instruments.
"I wanted a place for my students of all ages and backgrounds to play and come together. I also wanted to support the community and bring live music to the audiences of Oxford County."
The band has grown quite a bit over the years, starting out with about 12 members and having over 50 today. Riehl says they have three bands today with different ages and skill levels.
"One is a novice band, so if you haven't played in 20 years and you want to pick up that flute that's in your closet, or if you just started playing in your Grade 7 band in school. We also have our intermediate band for those people that have grown through the novice band. In our senior band we have people that actually have degrees in music, retired professionals and just people that play a lot."
All three bands will be featured in the Oxford Winds spring performance at Knox Presbyterian Church in Woodstock, titled A Concert 30 Years in the Making. It will be taking place on Friday, May 8th with a 7:30 p.m. start time.
Riehl says it will be a blast from the past.
"The music is going to be a flashback of the last 30 years of our concerts and also music from other things that are celebrating their 30th anniversary like Mission Impossible for example. It should be a great concert with a real variety of music and some extra birthday celebrations."
Tickets will cost $15 at the door, with kids 12 and under getting in for free. Advanced tickets cost $10 each and they can be purchased online here or at Long & McQuade in Woodstock and Tillsonburg.
