The quarantine period is officially over at the Woodstock and Cambridge Toyota Plants and Southwestern Public Health has not reported any new cases of COVID-19.
WOODSTOCK/CAMBRIDGE - The work quarantine for Toyota workers in Woodstock and Cambridge is over today.
Around 150 employees at both plants were told to self isolate after coming into close contact with someone who tested positive. While they were in self isolation, though they were still told to go to work. The letter to workers stated they are required to self-isolate for 14 days until April 9th.
"During your self-isolation you may continue to go to work but you must go directly to work and home again. While you are at work it is important you maintain your isolation meaning you avoid any close contact of any co-workers until your isolation period is over."
Local Medical Officer of Health Dr. Joyce Lock admits that was a difficult decision.
"That was a difficult decision to make, we did it with the safety of the workers and their co-workers and the ongoing operation of the plant as key issues to consider. We certainly didn't want anybody else to get exposed."
Dr. Lock says a lot of things went into that decision and they consulted many experts.
"We did do a focused inspection of the workplace itself and the nature of the work being done by the workers impacted, to determine whether or not they could still be at work, while they were in that period of observation as a contact of exposure."
Dr. Lock says they also consulted their provincial partners.
"The findings of this was discussed with our provincial partners and after careful and due consideration, it was felt that the workers could safely return to work."
Dr. Lock says they did not have any further cases develop from this incident.
