The Annual Kidney Walk in Tillsonburg is expecting to raise awareness and hit some important goals or their 8th annual event
The annual Kidney Walk in Tillsonburg is putting the call out for more participants, despite the thousands already set to take part
Pushing for more walkers is one way the local chapter will not only raise awareness but ensure they reach their goals. Provincially the organization hopes to raise $750,000. Chairperson of the walk, Greg Dulster explains how the community of Tillsonburg typically does in their efforts.
"We usually in Tillsonburg shoot for $5,000 we are on target this year to reach our goal and this will put us over the $50,000 mark."
The walk is a featured local event to raise money and awareness of kidney health and organ donation. Dulster explains how the community of Tillsonburg benefits from the money raised.
"Tillsonburg has been fortunate enough to get a satellite unit, because basically what that means is that people don't have to spend time travelling to get to dialysis, they have a unit in their own back yard."
The walk begins at 10 am at the Tillsonburg Memorial District Hospital and is a key local event to raise awareness of kidney health and organ donation
The money raised locally helps maintain a dialysis satellite so patients don't have to travel far for treatment.
There are two options for the trek - a 2km and a 6.5 km.
