OXFORD COUNTY - Bessie Lorena Rounds passed away peacefully at 107 years old last week and her family is remembering her. She passed away peacefully at Woodingford Lodge on August 4th.
Michelle Leduc is her granddaughter and she says her grandma was a wonderful woman.
"Her piano playing was just unbelievable. We would have a great meal at her place, so then we would finish and me and my cousins and my brother we'd go out back and we would have crab apple fights in her and my grandpa's barn. And then she would call us in and we'd get our picture taken and then she would play the piano, and that was a typical meal at my grandma's."
In addition to playing the piano, Leduc says her grandma's other hobbies included gardening. Rounds was born in 1913, growing up on a farm in Zorra Township and she was a full-time nurse for 20 years working in Stratford. She celebrated her 105th birthday a few years ago years ago and she was the oldest person in Oxford County.
Leduc says her grandma was always a positive person and everybody loved her.
"She didn't judge anybody. She treated everybody the same whether you were the mailman or her manager at work, she treated everybody the same and she had a kind word for everybody."
The funeral for Rounds was held last Saturday at Francis Funeral Home in Tavistock and Leduc says it went very well. She says it was a great get together for everybody.
Leduc says she plans on honouring her grandma's memory by keeping her family involved in music and she wants to continue to visit family as well, getting together at least once a year.
"All three of my kids took piano lessons. My brother, his daughters took lessons. We all want keep up the musical part of it."
