Nine local organizations will be receiving Community Grants funding from the City of Woodstock.
WOODSTOCK – Woodstock City Council has approved its first round of Community Grants Applications for 2023.
City-County Councillor Bernia Wheaton says the city had over $120,000 to award but was only able to give away a quarter of the funds.
The successful applicants were:
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oxford County – Awarded $5,000
Parent/Student Council of Friendly City Taekwondo – Awarded $1,125
STEM Camp – Awarded $4,500
Victoria’s Quilts – Woodstock/Oxford Branch – Awarded $3,000
Woodstock Agricultural Society – Awarded $2,700
Woodstock & District Developmental Services – Awarded $5,000
Woodstock Lawn Bowling Club – Awarded $3,000
Woodstock Rotary Festival of Music – Awarded $5,000
Woodstock Triathlon Club – Kids Du Committee – Awarded $1,000
Wheaton says only three applicants were not approved, and some of the successful applicants were not given the full amount requested. She says in order for funds to be granted they must go towards things that will not rely on future grants to be sustained.
Over $90,000 remain in the Community Grants fund for this year. Council will open a second round of grants on September 2nd. Councillor Wheaton encourages all organizations that serve Woodstock to consider applying.
“What is the impact that this organization can make in our community? How many people will be involved? How many lives will be changed as a result of this funding? So, that is a huge factor, and can this organization pull off what they are anticipating doing?”
