WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police are warning the public about a scam involving their name.

Police are reminding the public they will not call you to say that you have an arrest warrant via an automated machine. Police will also never ask you to transfer funds into an account using Bitcoin.

Over the weekend a resident was called by an unknown man who said they would be arrested because of charges related to their S.I.N.

The caller then instructed the victim to transfer funds in Bitcoin to an account.

These types of scams, including CRA scams, are especially common this time of year. Police encourage members of the public to be cautious when giving out personal information over the phone and transferring funds to known callers.
