One of the advantages to Facebook is that is allows you to reconnect with old classmates, family, and contacts. Well, a Facebook Group is allowing Woodstontians to reconnect with the city's past. It's called "You Know You Grew Up in Woodstock", and now boasts over 2400 members. The group's administrator, Paul Roberts has been putting in a lot of work, posting old pictures of what the city looked like decades ago. He says it involves a lot of research. "It's hard. You'll spend hours and hours looking for something and you can find it...and then you'll google some silly thing, looking for something else and you'll find a scat of pictures." Roberts also runs a group the deals more with current affairs in the city, called the "Woodstock News Group". Roberts says sharing content from local media has been a sort of sounding board on the issues of the day. "You know, I post stuff off your site (Heart FM), and the paper's site, and then people talk about it. We try to stick to the main topics, we try not to get into vandalism, the police reports and all that stuff." The most recent topic generated enough response, where Roberts sent the results to city council. He asked the question of whether or not the city should preserve Southside Pond. 105 respondents said yes, while only one vote went to getting rid of the pond for the sake of water quality. Roberts has sent the results to Woodstock City Council, who will be dealing with the issue in a report from their consultant, November 15th. Council is set to decide in the coming months on what to do about improving water quality in Cedar Creek through Woodstock. Eliminating the pond would help. However, local residents were very vocal at public meetings earlier this summer about preserving the picturesque pond.
