Officers are amazed that nobody was killed after a violent head on collision, caused by a driver going the wrong way on the 401 in Oxford County. Four people were injured, including a father and son.
OXFORD COUNTY - A violent head on collision on the 401 in Oxford County on Tuesday night.
Police say the received several 9-1-1 calls last night after getting a report about a vehicle travelling East Bound in the West Bound lanes of the 401. The vehicle eventually collided head on with a car that had a father and son. The Father and son were taken to hospital with non life threatening injuries, while the driver in the other vehicle and his passenger were both taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Constable Ed Sanchuk says it's amazing that nobody was killed.
"I want to put a big thank you out to everyone who contacted 9-1-1 yesterday. Especially to a truck driver who veered out of the way. That truck driver likely saved a lot of lives last night. This person was travelling down the middle lane of the highway heading east bout in the west bound lanes and just barely missed that truck driver. That truck truck pulled over and immediately called 9-1-1, along with a slew of other people. They eventually moved into the fast lane and ultimately collided with a west bound vehicle being driven by a Father and son."
Sanchuk says they don't have any more details to provide at this time. We are expecting an update on Thursday. An investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
"Officers were absolutely amazed that no one was killed as result of this head on collision."
