Officials say drugs in those areas could be contaminated. They have also seen an increase in overdoses and drug related deaths.
OXFORD/ELGIN - Southwestern Public Health has issued a drug watch for Oxford and Elgin.
Officials say cocaine and crystal methamphetamine circulating in those areas could contain xylazine, fentanyl, and benzodiazepines. The health unit has also seen an increase in overdoses and drug related deaths recently but it didn't include any numbers in the statement released yesterday.
It you witness an overdose, officials say you should call 911 and administer naloxone (possibly more than once) if it was caused by an opioid. You should also stay with the person until the paramedics arrive and make sure they go to the hospital for further treatment.
Drug users are being advised to carry naloxone, not use alone, avoid mixing substances, and start with small amounts.
