The local health unit is warning people about the freezing cold temperatures.
OXFORD, ELGIN, MIDDLESEX - Southwestern Public Health has issued a cold weather alert for Oxford, Elgin and Middlesex.
It's warning people to take precautions to make sure they don't get hypothermia or frostbite.
Those who are the most vulnerable include seniors, infants, young children, those who work outside, and people who participate in outdoor winter sports. Those who are homeless and don't have access to shelter, food, and proper clothing are also at risk.
Health officials say you should stay inside as much as possible. If you have to go out, you should dress in warm layers, cover up all exposed skin, and avoid strenuous exercise as much as possible. You should also stay away from caffeinated and alcoholic drinks because they can make your body lose heat more rapidly.
Environment Canada says we're in for a high of minus 7 today, but it will feel more like minus 19 this morning and minus 14 this afternoon. We're also in for a low of minus 11 tonight, feeling like minus 19 this evening and minus 13 overnight.
The cold weather alert is expected to continue into tomorrow.
Environment Canada is forecasting temperatures as low as -12˚C and -22˚C with the wind chill, in the SWPH region beginning overnight on Monday and continuing into Wednesday, January 15th.
