A career in politics is coming to an end for the current Mayor of Zorra and Warden of Oxford County.
OXFORD COUNTY - A familiar face will not be running in this municipal election.
Marcus Ryan has decided to step away from politics after 12 years in multiple roles. Ryan says stopping high-speed rail and the landfill were some highlights, but speaks to what he thinks is the most memorable.
"Overall, though, I think some of the things I'm most proud of are some of the people that I'm leaving behind, either councillors that I've helped out over the years or staff that I've left out. And the financial situation of the county and the township is really strong, like Oxford County has an AAA credit rating. That's a better credit rating than the province."
Ryan talks about the reasoning behind him making his decision.
"It's demanding, and at a certain point, I think it's legit for anybody to say, do I really have that much charge in the battery to keep getting that stuff done? And so, I decided that it’s probably time for me to move on to other things."
Ryan mentions he does not have a grand plan, but wants to go to his cabin and travel more once he is officially done being the Mayor of Zorra and Oxford County Warden.
