Government Order Exempts Unvaccinated Truckers Delivering Vaccines and Medical Devices From Border Restrictions

Unvaccinated truck drivers bringing COVID-19 vaccines and medical devices into Canada are now exempt from quarantine and testing requirements at the border.

Health Canada has issued a government order to exempt unvaccinated truckers delivering COVID-19 vaccines and medical devices into the country from testing and quarantine requirements at the border.

The agency says this is due to the "urgent public health necessity" of the supplies coming into Canada, though it wasn't specified if masks, gowns or COVID-19 tests fall under the definition of medical devices.

Other exemptions have also been granted for certain individuals, including those invited by the health minister to help with response to the pandemic and drivers dropping off college or university students on either side of the border.

Unvaccinated truck drivers coming into Canada who are not carrying vaccines or medical devices still need to obtain a pre-arrival COVID-19 test, quarantine, and undergo molecular testing in Canada.
