Introducing Legacy in Action

Andrew Stoddarts Legacy #11forever Facebook page

Andrew's Legacy is now offering Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR classes.

OXFORD - It's a new chapter for Andrew's Legacy.

The local group has been raising funds to put Automated External Defibrillators (AED) in public places for 11 years, all in memory of Andrew Stoddart. He was 15-years-old when he died after having a cardiac arrest at a soccer field in Kintore on May 11th, 2015.

The group had partnered with the Thamesford Tim Horton's for the annual Smile Cookie campaign for seven years, which saw lots of community support and raised a total of $161,692.28 of dollars for the cause, but now they have decided to switch gears a bit with a new initiative called Legacy in Action.

Co-founders Cara Schmidt and Krista Granger have been trained to provide Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR classes to members of the community, thanks to a partnership with LMAC Community CPR. Granger says they're willing to travel to local groups in the community to teach them how to save lives.

"We can come out, we can talk, and show you how to do CPR and use the AEDs. Education is key, we can put the machines out there but we need to know how to use them."

She adds the initiative will also raise funds for their cause, so it's the best of both worlds.

"With every registration payment, we will be donating back to Andrew's Legacy so we can continue to do the work we do. Now we can start training people how to use it and certify them."

You can find more information about Legacy in Action through the Andrew's Legacy website online here.

Granger says Andrew's Legacy is also excited to participate in Wildwood Dragon Boat Challenge once again on Saturday May 23rd this year. Those looking to support them can donate or even join the team themselves. They will also have a booth on site with some games, demonstrations, and a 50/50 draw to raise funds for the cause.

Krista Granger stopped by the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Friday April 17th. You can listen to the full interview below:
