"What is really alarming is that 5 out of 6 of those kids will not receive the treatment they need."
Children's Mental Health Week runs from May 1st to the 7th.
The Oxford Elgin Child and Youth Centre is hoping to get people talking about children's mental health during the week. Executive Director Mamta Chail Teves says 1 out of 5 kids in Ontario struggles with a mental health problem. Without treatment, these problems may lead to family conflict, failing at school, drug abuse, and suicide which we have seen in Woodstock.
"1 of 5 children and youth in Ontario will experience some form of a mental health problem. What is really alarming is that 5 out of 6 of those kids will not receive the treatment they need."
She notes they are hosting an event at the Fusion Youth Centre.
"To mark children's mental health week one of our highlighter events is our Community Cares concert and that is being held on May the 5th at the Fusion Youth Centre in Ingersoll."
The concert is free and they do ask you to bring a non perishable food item as a donation.
Local youth will be performing at the show from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.
