Residents of Oxford County will have to abide by the watering restrictions that have been put in place by the County.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County has implemented the outdoor watering restrictions.
As of May 1st, residents will have to make sure to follow the guidelines, which are watering grass or gardens every other day, depending on their house address number. Residences with an odd-numbered house address may water on odd days of the month, while residences with an even-numbered house address may water on even days of the month. Watering can happen between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., or between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. for all residences. The restrictions are in effect until September 30th.
For businesses and commercial buildings, they will have to follow the same odd and even number rule, but their timeframes are between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. or 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. If you are looking to get an exemption from the schedule for a reason such as filling a swimming pool or watering recently installed landscaping, you can call the County at 519-539-9800 or email water@oxfordcounty.ca.
Last year, water consumption in Oxford County was up as much as 51% in the summer months. A big reason for that was lawn watering, and the water conservation program helps conserve the groundwater supply, which the County's water supply relies entirely on.
If you do not follow the by-law, you may have your water pressure reduced, which would require a fine to be paid in order to get full pressure back after a 24-hour waiting period.
This by-law is in effect for every resident serviced by municipal water, which includes Beachville, Bright, Brownsville, Dereham Centre, Drumbo, Princeton, Embro, Hickson, Ingersoll, Innerkip, Lakeside, Mount Elgin, Norwich, Otterville, Springford, Sweaburg, Plattsville, Tavistock, Thamesford, Tillsonburg and Woodstock.
