We have received a lot of snow this year, so City of Woodstock has some winter-related reminders for its residents.
WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock has a few reminders for residents out there as we experience a snowier than normal winter in the Friendly City.
Property owners have 24 hours to clear the sidewalks around their property of snow and ice after a weather event. While clearing all of the snow from your driveway and sidewalks, pile it to the right side of your property so it limits the amount of snow piled up at the end of your driveway when a plow goes by.
Your garbage, recycling and green bin containers should be close to the road but still in your driveway on your collection day, so they don't get in the way of the plows or get lost in snow drifts.
You can't park on city streets from 2:00 a.m. until 6:00 a.m. until March 31st, 2026. If you are parking on the street when it is allowed during the day, make sure the area has already been cleared of snow beforehand so the plows can get everything in one pass.
You should also give the snowplows lots of space do to their job, because they might have to backup while clearing the road.
Director of Public Works Jeff Molenhuis says the city has trying to keep up with all of the snow we have been getting lately.
"Woodstock and the surrounding areas have received a tremendous amount of snow over the past few weeks, and staff have been conducting winter control operations including plowing, salting and sanding 24/7. Right now, the biggest way residents can help is by not parking on the street so that our plows can fully clear the snow. And please remember, pushing or blowing snow onto the road can lead to charges under the Highway Traffic Act and creates extreme hazards for roadway users."
