After a motion was put forward, Woodstock Council approved an event to recognize volunteers.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City Council passed a motion to start a volunteer recognition event to highlight the important volunteers we have in our community.
This happened at last night's City Council meeting, where Councillor Liz Wismer-Van Meer brought the motion forward.
"There are people who are giving countless hours quietly, and they don't do it for recognition; they do it because they truly believe that it is for the better of our community."
The original motion was going to provide volunteers with five annual awards of $1,000 each, but Wismer Van-Meer decided to change it.
"Volunteers will feel more comfortable just accepting the recognition, whether that be a plaque, a pin, a certificate, or even having an evening event or dinner."
The recognition event is planned to be held annually in April in coordination with Volunteer Appreciation Week.
