The 24th annual Woodstock Wildcats Girls hockey tournament is happening this weekend, with three games beginning tonight inside the Civic Centre.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Wildcats are hosting their annual hockey tournament once again.
This year marks the 24th time it's being held, which will be happening across three arenas in the region.
Tournament Coordinator Jason Arnott says they'll have close to the same number of teams they had last year.
"It's our primary fundraiser for our organization. The Wildcats will help offset some of the fees and costs that are associated or occurred through running the operation, so it's always a good fundraiser for our association every year."
115 games are scheduled across the next three days and it kicks off tonight featuring three Wildcat teams inside the Civic Centre.
The games will also be held inside the Southwood Arena and Norwich Arena this weekend.
Arnott says local businesses in town will also benefit from this weekend's event.
"About half or more are staying over night. The other half are more locally so, yeah, the motels and restaurants certainly see a huge economic spinoff."
Over 750 girls from across Ontario will be competing in this year's tournament.
He adds they'll also have their silent auction at the Southwood Arena where people can bid on many items, including Toronto Maple Leafs tickets.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards the Woodstock Wildcats Hockey Association.
The event is free and it goes until this Sunday.
