Delhi Cancer Fighter to Celebrate 14th Birthday Next Month

A 13-year-old cancer fighter in Delhi will be celebrating his birthday next month and he's hoping to receive birthday cards from around the world.

DELHI - A 13 year old boy from Delhi recently diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoma leukaemia is getting set to turn 14 next month.

Ethan Shelly is currently in remission and is going through extensive chemotherapy right now. Ethan's Grandma Bridgette Homenuik says all he wants for his birthday on May 13th is some birthday cards from around the world.

"Just want to show him that people do care out there and they don't even know him."

Ethan can't attend school right now because he is immunocompromised and can't see any of his friends. Homenuik says he was diagnosed last year and hasn't been able to play his favourite sport hockey ever since.

"He was in the ICU for the first 3 weeks, his blood count was really bad, since then his journey to the hospital has been aggressive treatment. His treatment plan is for 2 years, so far he's being doing a good job of tolerating it, he has good days and bad days. He was a good hockey player since he was little and that came to a halt last year. He's not able to attend school either, he is in remission, meaning no new cells. He has a long treatment ahead of him, he's not half way through yet."

Ethan is actually on his way to London Sick Kids this morning for chemotheraphy treatment.

OPP Constable Ed Sanchuk made national headlines earlier this year in getting birthday cards for Sarah, a young lady battling cancer. He is once again leading the charge and encouraging everyone to send birthday cards to Ethan and put a smile on his face.

"We always here the negative stories about COVID-19, all the lockdowns happening, I want to bring some positivity to this young man and let's focus on the good. Let's give him more reason, not only to keep fighting and beat leukaemia, it's just a great opportunity to help somebody in our community and bring a smile to this young man's face."

You can send the cards directly to Ethan at:
