Perth Line 20 will remain closed until midnight after a fatal head on crash this morning.
One man is dead following a fatal crash in Perth County this morning.
OPP were called to the area of Perth Line 20 just west of Union Line around 11:30 am today. The crash was caused when a Freightliner truck pulling a full sized trailer collided with a Kia Sedona minivan. The Sedona entered onto the westbound lane and collided head-on with the tractor trailer.
The impact caused the fuel tanks on the Freightliner to rupture and detach, causing a diesel fuel spill on the roadway and in the north ditch. The lone occupant of the minivan was declared deceased at the scene. He has been identified as 34 year old Barry Allen Edwards of South Huron. The 58 year old driver of the truck was transported to a local area hospital after he was extricated out of his truck by the Fire Department.
A ministry of the environment representative attended the scene to ensure the fuel spill had been properly contained. The OPP West Region Technical Traffic Collision Investigators remain at the scene and are continuing to investigate the crash.
Perth Line 20 is expected to remain closed until around midnight to allow for the removal of the vehicles.
