Province Reverses Course on Stop and Question

Police in Ontario will no longer have the authority to stop people on the street or pull over vehicles for no reason.

ONTARIO - The Province is reversing course on a decision to give police additional powers to stop random vehicles and people on the street.

Solicitor General Sylvia Jones made the announcement last night. The new powers given to police were part of the new COVID-19 restrictions announced on Friday. This is the second decision the Province has walked back. Yesterday the Premier tweeted they will be keeping playgrounds open, less than 24 hours after saying they will be closed.

The decision to remove the stop and question powers comes as most police agencies in the Province said they wouldn't enforce it, including the Woodstock Police.
