Southwestern Public Health Offering Isolation Tips for Parents with School Aged Children

Southwestern Public Health has a few tips for parents with kids isolating at home following a COVID-19 exposure.

WOODSTOCK - Southwestern Public Health has a few tips for parents and caregivers in the Central Public School community.

The school has been temporarily closed after multiple staff and students were exposed to COVID-19.

If your child has been exposed to the virus, Public Health Nurse Jenna Tregenza says you should wait a full week before you take them to get tested.

"If you do test too early you may receive a false negative result so you may still come down with COVID-19. That's why it's really important to complete your isolation period."

She says you should monitor your child for symptoms and you should try to isolate them in their own little area of the home.

"Have the person that's in isolation try to stick to one area and eat away from others. It's okay for them to play outside and get some fresh air, it's actually very beneficial for them, but we do want them to play away from neighbours."

Tregenza says you should also wash your hands more often, step up your cleaning efforts and open your windows to left fresh air inside every once in a while. It's also very important that you don't welcome any visitors into your home during the isolation period.

Southwestern Public Health has posted an isolation guide for parents and guardians on it's YouTube page online here.
