"This was the third highest total that Woodstock has had since the beginning of the Marathon of Hope."
WOODSTOCK - The Terry Fox Run in Woodstock was able to raise over $26,000 this year.
Volunteer John Versavel says they made the announcement at reception for their volunteers.
"Woodstock has an amazing group of volunteers who help put this on, we couldn't do it without them, so to show our appreciation we just have a little social get together, a little wrap up at the end of the year."
Versavel says the have asked all of the volunteers to sign a dedication banner to remember the 2017 Marathon of Hope efforts locally. He says everyone was thrilled with the grand total this year.
"You never know when you get involved with these types of fundraisers how it is going to turn out. Woodstock historically has raised less than $26,000 so we were quite pleased with the results this year. When Peter Oswald and I first talked about it this year, we decided not to put a goal on it this year because after the amazing turnout last year in honour of Bill Gillespee, we knew it would be real hard to touch that so we just thought we would do the best we can and we will see what the City comes up with and the City did fine, people turned out, this was the third highest total that Woodstock has had since the beginning of the Marathon of Hope."
Oswald noted that many moving parts create a strong event.
"There are a lot of little pieces that have to come together for us to make such a big impact. Woodstock has hosted a run every year that the (Terry Fox) foundation has been going and to have this many people register and donate, and for so many volunteers to assist speaks volumes about this community."
