Two local athletes and seven organizations will benefit from Community Grants in Woodstock.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City Council has approved the last Community Grant recipients for 2017.
Council approved the distribution of $30,500 at their meeting last night, after giving out approximately $114,000 in April.
Councillor Todd Poetter says the city has dished out a lot of money this past year.
"Between the two allotments for the year, and of course all of this money comes from the Woodstock Slots, I think we have given out over $145,000."
A special committee receives grant applications two times a year, and it's their job to disperse the money to organizations that benefit the community.
The Canadian Cancer Society is among the recipients this time around. Poetter says they will use their money to help local cancer patients seek treatment elsewhere if need be.
"We have volunteers that take them back and forth but of course with the cost of gas that all has to be paid for so we were happy to give money to that."
The next round of community grants will be handed out in April 2018.
The latest recipients as follows;
Woodstock Athletic Legion ($6,000) - To help offer physical activities and training for Woodstock youth.
Woodstock Minor Football ($6,000) - Will keep their registration fees at an affordable price, help pay for training supplies and allow their volunteer coaches to receive NCCP Coach Training.
Canadian Cancer Society of Oxford ($5,000) - To benefit Wheels of Hope Transportation Service, which takes cancer patients to receive treatment elsewhere if need be.
Noah Young ($3,500) - Taekwondo training fees. Young has qualified for provincials and nationals in the past.
Noah Parker ($3,500) - Pole Vault training fees. Parker has also qualified for provincials and nationals.
Woodstock Choralaires ($2,000) - To allow Canadian Folk Group Trent Severn to come in as a guest performer at their upcoming Christmas Concert.
Woodstock Fanshawe Singers ($2,000) - To provide financial support for the Junior Choir's Young Artist Program.
Oxford Historical Society ($1,500) - For their office facilities.
